I'm looking forward to auditions. I'm going to be doing it differently than in past years. Please read the information posted here to learn more.

We have a Jazz Night on Thursday of this week. We will be doing it in the band room like our concert with Brian Lynch. Jazz 2 and Jazz 1 will play in a "concert" setting, then we will clear the chairs and do a dance for about an hour or so. The concert is FREE.

My Grading bias:
“. . . a grade is an inadequate report of an inaccurate judgment by a biased and variable judge of the extent to which a student has attained an undefined level of mastery of an unknown proportion of an indefinite amount of material.” -Paul Dressel

WOW~! What a great evening of jazz music at the Paramount on Friday, provided by the top 5 high school jazz bands in the area, including our very own MTHS Jazz 1 Band. Mr. Faul and the MTHS Jazz 1 band provided a "swinging" night of music to a sold out crowd of over 3,000 audience members!!! This was the 18th Annual Starbucks Hot Java Cool Jazz, and another great year and great opportunity for our MTHS Jazz band to perform at this prestigious event. Once again our jazz band "wowed" the audience and received a standing ovation... Way to go~!!!

I would like to give a huge shout out to Mr. and Mrs. Sparks, who volunteered to be the back stage chaperones for the third year in a row!! They have done an amazing job keeping track of our students, making sure they are fed, hydrated and where they need to be for warm ups and getting ready to be on stage. They watch over our students instruments while the students go sit in the audience to watch the other bands and stay until the last student has been picked up to go home. This is a big part of the evening and we THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for all you have done at Hot Java Cool Jazz, and many other events, to help things run smoothly.

I would also like to give a huge THANK YOU to Mr. Faul. He has worked very hard, endlessly, to provide many great opportunities to our students to help assist them become the best performers they can be. From lining up major performers such as Jeff Hamilton Trio and Brian Lynch, to finding the right scores and music to make the band shine when they play, his continued countless hours of hard work must not go unnoticed. Thank you doesn't seem enough, but THANK YOU, Mr. Faul, for ALL you have done to encourage and support our students to continue to grow.

There are more great opportunities coming up for our Jazz 1 and Jazz 2 bands to perform. Please watch your emails, check the Google Calendar or check the band website regularly to watch for upcoming events or new events that are added!!

"Once again, your students dazzled our parents and community members with their performances. We received numerous comments from parents on how much they enjoyed listening to the students perform and on how talented they are. Thank you to each of you for working with students to organize the performances for the evening and though thanks seems hardly enough – for the amazing work you do each day with our students." Erin Murphy

"My husband and I, too, thoroughly were blown away by your fantastic group! Good Luck with future performances. We look forward to trying to see your group again."

"The Arts cannot thrive except where men are free to be themselves and to be in charge of the discipline of their own energies and ardors. The conditions for democracy and for the arts are one and the same. What we call liberty in politics results in freedom in the arts. A world turned into a stereotype, a society converted into a regiment, a life translated into a routine make it difficult for either art or artists to survive. Crush individuality in society and you crush art as well. Nourish the conditions of a free life and you nourish the arts, too." -Franklin D. Roosevelt, 1939

"The life of the arts, far from being an interruption, a distraction, in the life of a nation, is close to the center of a nation's purpose - and is a test to the quality of a nation's civilization."-John F. Kennedy
