News

I'm so proud of all the bands students! We had two very successful trips in the last few weeks. First we traveled to Savannah, Georgia to compete in the Swing Central Jazz Festival. This was a great experience for everyone. We played well and had a great time meeting students from other schools. We also interacted with many professional musicians and took in some great night concerts that were part of the Savannah Music Festival. And did I mention Jazz Ensemble 1 got third place? : )

After coming home late on Sunday night we repacked and traveled to Disneyland on the next Thursday. We had a fabulous time. 59 students and several adults for performances in the park and workshops for both the concert band and the jazz band. We all had a great time and felt good about the music experience, too.

Auditions are coming up. Click Here for more information.

Welcome to the 2013-2014 MTHS School year~!  We are all very excited and looking forward to a fantastic year of music and song for our Band, Choir and Orchestra students this coming year.

You may ask, what does the MTHS Music Boosters do?  The general purpose of the Music Boosters is to provide support to the music programs in such a way as to encourage the program’s growth and success.  Music Boosters is self-supporting and finances all its activities through fundraising efforts.

On a grand scale, Music Boosters strives to raise the level of appreciation and involvement of the community within, and the community outside of, our music programs.  Our primary mission is to assist, support and promote the directors and students through the school year by encouraging all to attend events & activities, assist with fundraisers, chaperone field trips, volunteering and much more.

All parents of Mountlake Terrace High School music students are automatically members of the MTHS Music Boosters.  We invite each and everyone to take the opportunity to positively influence your student’s school experience in a way that is fun and rewarding, by volunteering at our events, helping with fundraisers and attending our music programs.

Volunteer time is essential to the success of our program.  There are many ways you can help~!  If you have any questions at all, don’t hesitate to ask any of us on the MTHS Music Booster Board, or other involved parents, what you can do to help.  Watch for events that are posted on the Google Calendar or emails that may be sent out for opportunities where you can lend your helping hand.

Other ways to help is spread the news about events.  Tell your friends and co-workers about the concerts and invite them to come and have a dessert party at your home following the concert to encourage community support.  Bring your younger students to concerts so they can see and hear the great things that await them if they continue with music.   Our students and directors work very hard to  prepare for performing and having a full audience to perform to is what we always hope for.

And last, but not least, support your student.  Encourage them & listen to them practice, celebrate small accomplishments, attend their concerts and celebrate the music~!!!

I would like to make mention that the Edmonds School District was named “Best Community For Music Education” in the United States by the NAMM Foundation.  The NAMM foundation acknowledges schools & districts  across the US for their commitment and support of music education as part of the core curriculum.  For the FIFTH YEAR in a row, and seven times overall through the 13 year history of the award.  our Edmonds School District has been designated the “Best Community in 2013”.  In all, 307 communities were recognized by the NAMM foundation.

We welcome and appreciate YOUR support!

"Once again, your students dazzled our parents and community members with their performances. We received numerous comments from parents on how much they enjoyed listening to the students perform and on how talented they are. Thank you to each of you for working with students to organize the performances for the evening and though thanks seems hardly enough – for the amazing work you do each day with our students." Erin Murphy

"My husband and I, too, thoroughly were blown away by your fantastic group! Good Luck with future performances. We look forward to trying to see your group again."

"The Arts cannot thrive except where men are free to be themselves and to be in charge of the discipline of their own energies and ardors. The conditions for democracy and for the arts are one and the same. What we call liberty in politics results in freedom in the arts. A world turned into a stereotype, a society converted into a regiment, a life translated into a routine make it difficult for either art or artists to survive. Crush individuality in society and you crush art as well. Nourish the conditions of a free life and you nourish the arts, too." -Franklin D. Roosevelt, 1939

"The life of the arts, far from being an interruption, a distraction, in the life of a nation, is close to the center of a nation's purpose - and is a test to the quality of a nation's civilization."-John F. Kennedy
